About Agrimony, the Bach Flower Remedy

As a remedy state, Agrimony belongs to the town. Sociable people, seeking the contact and stimulus of company.

The Agrimony plant is one that reaches out to touch you. It grows along the roadside, the field edge, alongside paths and tracks where people pass. However, it is a solitary plant – each plant is separate, in its own space. It is not a plant which builds a massed population.

Agrimony types are tormented from restlessness in the soul. Above all, they seek peace. This peace will come from an acceptance and understanding of our soul’s purpose within life on earth. Agrimony types experience the pain of the world but feel inadequate for the task of reconciling the pain with faith in life. In other words they find it hard to hold the pain and beauty of the world together at the same time. Life can be filled with entertainment, banter, distractions – but inside the alone-ness remains.

Agrimony people are sensitive – and the plant illustrates this with a delicacy in leaf and stem which are covered in fine hairs. The leaves are fine and soft, a sign of the sensing, receptive nature of the Agrimony type.

Agrimony flowers look out horizontally – they watch the earth, not the sky. The Agrimony type is a receptor, absorbing pain and emotional stress from the surroundings.

The Agrimony state is strongly emotional – a flood of feeling, not able to think. The yellow flower has the soft enduring strength of gold. It speaks of the serenity that comes from inner tranquillity, a knowledge of the eternal.

Agrimony is a plant which pushes energy upwards and outwards. By nature the plants are pliable and open. For the person, such openness allows in all the pain, and that causes Agrimony types to push experience outwards and away. The Agrimony type has insight and knowledge, but is resistant to working with it. Knowing, but pretending not to know.

The real life opportunity offered by Agrimony is this: only through spiritual understanding can we transcend the pain of the world. The lesson is to be able to hold peace in the presence of all the trials and difficulties until no one has the power to cause you irritation.
